Did You Lose Money Investing in Duolingo (DUOL)?

A securities class action has been filed on behalf of all persons who purchased Duolingo, Inc. (“Duolingo” or the “Company”) (NASDAQ: DUOL) Class A common stock between May 2, 2025 and February 26, 2026, inclusive (the “Class Period”).

The action, City of Dearborn Heights ACT 345 Police & Fire Retirement System v. Duolingo, et al., Case No. 2:26-cv-02197, was filed on October 7, 2026 in U.S. District Court, Western District of Pennsylvania, and asserts violations of Sections 10(b) and 20(a) of the Securities Exchange Act of 1934 and SEC Rule 10b-5, promulgated thereunder.

What Does the Duolingo Securities Class Action Allege?

The complaint alleges that throughout the Class Period, Duolingo, Chief Executive Officer Luis von Ahn, and former Chief Financial Officer Matthew Skaruppa made materially false and misleading statements and omitted material information concerning Duolingo’s daily active user growth, monetization practices, and product quality.

Specifically, the complaint alleges that Duolingo increased advertising and subscription upselling, introduced features that deliberately added friction to the free user experience, and increasingly relied on rapidly generated artificial intelligence content that diminished product quality. The complaint further alleges that Duolingo’s extensive A/B testing showed that these practices negatively affected daily active user growth and the user experience, despite the Company’s positive statements concerning user growth, engagement, and product improvements.

The complaint also alleges that Duolingo downplayed the financial impact of its decision to prioritize user growth and improvements to its learning experience over monetization. According to the complaint, disclosures on November 5, 2025, January 12, 2026, and February 26, 2026, revealed continued deceleration in daily active user growth and adverse financial consequences, followed by significant declines in Duolingo’s stock price.

December 7, 2026 Lead Plaintiff Deadline

Investors who acquired Duolingo Class A common stock during the Class Period have until December 7, 2026 to move the Court to seek appointment as lead plaintiff. Investors do not need to seek appointment as lead plaintiff to remain a member of the proposed class.
